Autumn in Kern County
Fall in Kern County is a sight to behold. Capture Kern County photographers know this well and submitted thousands of autumn photos from all corners of our great county. We had so many photos to chose from, our editors had a difficult time selecting fewer than 100 photos for this showcase. Finally, they managed to cull the final selection to what you see below. Sit back and explore Autumn in Kern County through the eyes of Capture Kern County photographers.
What is a showcase? As a part of the Capture Kern County experience, our editors will select photos from time to time and feature them in a showcase like you see here. A showcase is a digital publication of a collection of photos curated by our editors. Enjoy!

Showcased Challenge
Fall Sports
We asked local photographers to show us sports around the county in Fall. From soccer to football and everything in between, Capture Kern County users responded with some great shots. Our editors loved the action shot by Brady Cabe, above, and the People's Choice winner went to Joshua Faulconer's football photo.

Fall Arrival
The White-Crowned Sparrows began arriving about two weeks ago, always a sign that fall is here. They are comming from as far north as the Yuko and Northern Alaska, where they spend the summer; and where they breed. Always a topic of curiosity (at least for me) is how they navigate such vast distances. It is because they have built in GPS!! They are capable directional orientation under natural night skies, so may derive visual information from stellar patterns to orient nocturnal activity (Zugunruhe) Adults orient in appropriate spring and fall compass directions during Zugunruhe, but most immatures orient to direction of most intense horizon glow. A phototaxic response to the moon and to city lights reflected by cloud cover may overwhelm stellar orientation mechanism. They may be capable of geomagnetic navigation; material (probably magnetite Fe3O4) embedded in fascia of head and neck muscles exhibits inducible magnetic remanence.

Winding Road
I headed out to Hart Park early one day in hopes of finding something cool to shoot. I had planned on getting a neat sunrise shot, but the sunrise wasn't too spectacular that day. So I parked my truck and wandered around for a bit. I came across this trail & instantly loved it. Definitely my favorite shot of the morning.

Well Marsha, from a non-biased view, the photo has great color balance and composition. Focus looks good with a shallow depth of field which draws more focused attention to the subject. So I think you did a really great job with this photo! See comment

Here's Coming at You
This leaf just seems to be coming right at you, full of color and splendor, larger than life. Used a 50 mm f/1.8 and a 52 mm screw-in close up lens I found, hidden in a box for 40 years. It was an answer to prayer for better close up capability, without having to buy a macro lens.
