The Times They Are A-Changin
Demolition Of Old Bekins Moving & Storage building to make way for an expanding San Joaquin Community Hospital. Shot from the second floor of Kaiser Medical Facility.
I can't recall a demolition like this in Bakersfield since the old Elks Lodge at 17th and Chester Ave. Elks Lodge 266 was built in 1909 by pioneer builder/architect Benjamin McDougall. The brick building was very difficult to bring down. A notable feature was a large indoor swimming pool.

commented 7 months agoNever more. It was an interesting old building. I visited friends working there a few times in the 70's.
